Gielinor Tribune Staff List ~ Part One: Gielinor Tribune News by Book Gielinor Tribune Welcomes Our Newest Staff Members! Recently in the Help & Advice forum on Tip.it the GT has been recruiting new people to join the staff and help out in making the new edtions of the Gielinor Tribune. I'd now like to welcome...Old_Ducky (Interviewer), Deathlord552 (Critic), and Master_Smither (Marketplace Writer) to the Staff!! I'd like to thank everyone else who took their time to apply and even if they didn't make it we hope you'll continue to read and enjoy the Gielinor Tribune. - Book(Unorclan) Gielinor Tribune Manager ~ Part Two: Halloween Event and Other News by Randox I know, you all want to get right to the Halloween event. Well, I won’t hold you up for too long. I would first like to quickly visit LootShare which unlike the Halloween event (as good as it may be), will not be disappearing soon. The LootShare is a well designed system for deciding who gets monster drops. It will only give you loot if you were close enough to the defeated monster, which means you have to stay where the action is. They also made sure that the system will try to give everyone something. They have not said if this system accounts for the values of the items, or if it just deals with all the same regardless of game or player value. I suspect it does not consider value, that would be quite complicated and the values of items can be very different between stores and what players trade them for. It does not apply to every world; this prevents clans from being able to hog all rewards in multiway combat. It should also be noted that this does not work for player killing, which is probably just as well. Player killing tends to involve valuables, and those should go to the person who contributed most to the kill. And just before we get to Halloween, I would like to point out that Jagex has modified the Ring of Life so that once activated it will cure poison damage. This will prevent your ring from activating only to have you die from poison upon arrival. An excellent update and I don’t think ANYONE has a good reason to complain about this. For once everyone really should be happy. Ok, Halloween is almost upon us, and I expect many of you have already completed the holiday event. Anyways, as decided by the player polls, we all got to clean the Grim Reapers house this year. Yay. Ok, I admit I had fun doing it, and I like his house. My chief complaint is that it was way too short. It took me about 9 minutes to complete, and for something I can only enjoy once, that’s not very long at all. I favour events that take a while (30 minutes is good), and can be re visited upon completion. I’m sure many of you remember the Easter where we got the Easter ring. While the quality of the reward is hotly debated, that was by far the best event they ever did in my mind. It took time, and I got to have fun hoping around as a bunny afterwards, the perfect event. There is also a huge groan from many members about how we already have hoods up to ying-yang. Oddly enough, most of those hoods are part of a skill cape, and I doubt that many people have many of those. Also, there is something about the way it hides your face that I find really neat. Now if only it were actually black (not grey-black) so that it might match some of my clothes. I know the free players are for the most part ecstatic as this is now the only F2P hood in the game. I don’t understand why people voted for the zombie hand emote; it’s not really something that’s going to be used once Halloween is past. Ah well, you can’t get everything. My parting words to Jagex this edition is please make the Christmas event longer than this Halloween was, and make it revisit able. And great job on the Ring of Life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Honest1 Productions Events Team are always recruiting. Please stop in and check us out, and be part of a commuity dedicated to fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Part Three: Armadyl Godsword; A Price Rollercoaster by Master_Smither 28 August 2007 - God Wars Dungeon This was possibly the biggest update of this year, bringing fame and fortune to those who were to master the ancient bosses that came with it. There was many new items released that day but I'm only going to touch upon the Armadyl Godsword (AGS). The AGS is considered the best godsword, because of its special attack, (inflict 25% more damage). It could easily kill anyone in 2 hits. The Armadyl Hilt was a very rare drop due to the high level of the boss monster. So it went to a maximum of 80,000,000GP for that one rare hilt. Startled at the very high price even with its recent release the rich avoid paying so much for a "weapon". With the other Godswords prices at a mere 40,000,000-50,000,000GP they were much more affordable and appealing to the rich who didn’t want to spend nearly double for a fairly un-*test*-('")ed item. As the Armadyl Boss finally got killable the price began to decrease to around 50,000,000GP. With it's recent but shot lived price reduction, the rich ran to the sellers and bought them up like people would buy rares at 1gp a piece. With the recent buying frenzy the sword was ready for combat -*test*-('")ing. When the word of the massive 70+ damage it was dealing the prices again bounced back to 80,000,000GP. However, this time people bought them because it was worth the damage it dealt. With the demand rising rapidly and the supply staying relatively the same, the price continued to rise. Breaking the 100,000,000GP mark the AGS became THE more expensive Godsword. With its new found PKing potential, it rose even more until finally topping at 140,000,000GP. The AGS has gone from 80M to 50M and back to a whopping 140M GP in less than 2 weeks time after its release. The price seemed to rollercoaster all over the place fort this Godsword because of its special attack. *All prices came from RSOF. ~ Part Four: Blahing it Up! by Moneyman6369 Section 1: Best Worlds to Choose… (Make a wise choice now, save time later!) • World hopping for respawns like Addy ore? Don’t always choose the least populated world; most likely that’s what all the other respawn people will be doing. Instead, choose a world a couple spaces up—only like 10 more people, but much less competition from others going for respawns! Can’t hurt to try it, can it? • Use themed worlds to do things you like doing with other players, but don’t use them if you’re competing for something on them, say, a rock or tree. More people = more competition = less chance of getting what you want. • Don’t use the ‘Choose Best World for Me’ button unless you want to be surrounded by noobs asking for money. If you do make the mistake of doing so, at least don’t go into Lumbridge at all costs! • Use world 17 for pking, but only if you have friends with you. Otherwise… Well, I don’t have to say it, do I? • On Runescape’s homepage change the language to Deutsch and then log in. Okay, there are only two worlds. Okay, you can’t read anything. Okay, people are talking in gibberish. However, you surely can sacrifice all that for a less than 200 world population and NO MACROERS. You can head to the Runite rocks to find no one there. Start training on lesser demons in Karmaja and have no competition. Try it out today! I love the Deutsch worlds (is that Dutch, or German? I really have no idea…). Yeah, as I said before, you can’t read anything besides the occasional English-speaking guy who has the same smart idea as you. The fact that it is default clothed men free (aka macros) is just wonderful. Another great thing about them is they have easy training. It’s just you and the monster. There’s no one there to swoop in and beat you for the kill. Mossies? Don’t worry about not getting the big bone drop because there’re 5 other people killing it with you; you have it all to yourself! There are two things you don’t want to do on a Deutsch world. One would be questing. Unlike most of Runescape which is pretty visual, quests usually require you to talk to a lot of NPCs. What’s the problem? Well, obviously, you can’t read anything! So I wouldn’t recommend questing on a Deutsch world. The second reason would be trading for similar reasons. Try these worlds today! Section 2: Player-killing (learn to kill like a pro today!) • Watch out for multi-combat zones (they’re marked with a ) because if you’re alone you’ll most certainly get annihilated. • Pking with a large group of people? Don’t scare loners away; assemble your team into a Death Dot. That’s when everyone stands in the same place, so on the mini-map it looks like it is just one person. Someone is bound to come over and get a surprise! • Here’s a little something you might want to try: Type ‘red: |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||’ to make it hard for your opponent to see how much health he/she is using therefore he/she won’t be able to know when to heal and you’ll get an easy kill! The | symbol, which is the most effective symbol to use, can be made by holding down Shift and pressing the \ key (backslash key). Be careful though! It might backfire, thus disabling you to see your own health! • Safeing is considered cheating by many. I don’t think it’s cheating personally; it’s just another strategy to use! It’s when you eat when your health is about ½ gone. You’re opponent won’t like it because he’s hoping that you’ll be naïve enough to wait until you’re at low health before eating. So he says something like ‘safer noob’ and then will probably do it himself, the hypocrite. So basically, it’s just eating before you’re about to die… I use it; I would encourage you to do the same! • All out of those lobsters? Need some desperate food? Well, head on over to the Bandit Camp, located right above Dark Knights’ Fortress. You’ll find Fat Tony selling pizza dough there and respawns of cheese and tomatoes. Put two and two together now… (Actually, that’s two and one! My bad) Buy some dough from Fat Tony and pick up that cheese and tomato. Did I mention? There’s a stove there too! So whenever you’re in need, head over to the Bandit Camp to make yourself a pizza! • Involved in a long fight? Don’t just stand there and let him deal damage to you while you eat! Instead, run around a little bit, and then face him again, but now with full health. • When you’re pking with a group of people, make sure that you have an even balance of Warriors, Mages, and Rangers. You want to even out the combat triangle so you’re invulnerable to anyone! Remember, the combat triangle looks like this: • you’re going to need both a rune two hander, and a rune scimitar for this next piece of advice. Wield the scimitar and start fighting someone. Right after they swing their sword back at you, quickly swap the scimitar for your r2h. You’ll deal extra damage that turn! Right after you have dealt the damage and he’s about to swing his sword, switch your r2h for your scimitar. If all goes well, there’ll be no break in the flow of the battle, and you’ll have dealt extra damage one turn! • You want to choose the food you take into the wilderness carefully. 2 or 3 bite foods such as pizzas, pies, and cakes are not ideal for pking. They will generally make you lag as you are eating rapidly and eating a lot! Lobsters are the preferred f2p pking food because they heal 12hp and are single bit. Swordfish are good as well; they heal 14hp! For p2p, you will want to be using sharks. They heal a whopping 20hp in one go! • If you’re pking at the Dark Warriors Fortress (which is a very good place to pk at) climb up the southwest ladder and walk north. Then climb down the northwest ladder and surprise those runes gatherers! You see, you can’t climb up the northwest ladder, only down, so they can’t escape. Make an easy kill and earn some cash… See picture below for clarification: 1 = Southwest ladder (climb up here) 2 = Northwest ladder (climb down here) ~ Part Five: The Exiles Part 1: Leaving the Guard by Andufus “You are no longer fit to serve the Secret Varrock Guard. Jonathon Green, you are officially fired and stripped of your powers.” King Roald spoke firmly, and with a tone of regret. He stood up from his throne. “Furthermore, you are exiled from the lands of Varrock. You may never return.” Jonathon sighed, and handed his uniform to the king, who put it in a pot to the right of his throne and sat back down. He waved a hand to the guard, and they escorted him out. The two that walked with him towards the gate of the town, he knew well, they were Chris, and Peter. Chris was one of his best friends, but he had a great rivalry with Peter. When they reached the city gates, Peter stared at Jonathon a moment, and walked off. Chris stayed. “Jon, don’t worry. You’ll be fine. I hear that Falador is a lot more of an accepting city than varrock anyway. I got you something.” Chris’s voice was soft but firm. He handed him a dark furred coat. “I caught some kebbits last summer and made this for you. It was going to be for your birthday but… I don’t think I’m going to see you again.” Jon shrugged on the coat over his clothes, and gave Chris a reluctant hug. He reached into his trouser pocket, and pulled out an old photograph. It showed him and Chris jumping with the children on karamja. “Wow, this was six years ago!” Jon walked south, towards Lumbridge and suddenly he missed that picture. He was alone, and worried. He didn’t deserve his exile, but revealing his framer would’ve led to a more serious punishment than this. It was midsummer, so the weather was rather pleasant, and the sky was a clear blue. Wondering what he would do with himself, he saw the river Lum. He was tired of walking, and the temptation to throw himself in was great, but he ignored it. Just as the sun set, he arrived in Lumbridge. He saw a man sitting on a bench made of teak. He was wearing a majestic blue long coat, and had an awe inspiring staff, and a sack beside him. Jon recognized this figure, although he had never met him before. He walked past him, and saw others carrying on the white and blue theme, but most of the others wore capes. He would ask the duke for residence for the night, and go from there. He looked up at the setting sun, filled with hope and despair. He was hopeful of a new beginning and the chance to start again, but upset at the cost. He walked up to the grand castle doors, and they swung open at the ligh-*test*-('") touch. A badly disguised goblin being led by someone in pink scuttled out of the doors and away. Confused a little, Jon walked on. It was morning. The Duke had been most welcoming, when the price was right. When Jon had explained his cause the Duke spoke of another who was residing in the castle, and that maybe they could go on together. The idea had intrigued him, he disliked being lonely. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Join The Campaign For More F2P Bankspace! Click The Image For A Link to The Campaigns Thread on Tip.it ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Part Six: Comic Con-*test*-('") by Dkw0101 ~ Part Seven: 85 Mining, Time Well Spent by Master_Smither This was a Guest Article sent in as a reply to one of our retired Blah Writer's (Wurmskin) article. 85 Mining; Time Well Spent 85 mining is a dream that will never come true to many. To others, it's a reality, but to some it is wasted time and never should have been gotten. 85 mining is the max level for achieving a new "item" in the mining skill but the skill is so "repetitive" that many won't tolerate the 3,258,594 XP needed for that level. The rewards are great but the time is not well spent. The rewards for 85 mining range from faster mining-mining to being able to mine Runite Ore. The time spent per ore at 85 mining is half that of the time spend per ore with 70 mining. I myself have experience RSC mining, RS2 mining, and RS2 updated mining. Being at85 mining right at this very moment myself, I can tell you I average 1 full mining "emotion" per gold ore but back at 70 mining it took me 14 hits which would average to about 2 "emotions". I'm not saying it's exactly double, but it is very close. Here comes the rune mining. At 12,000gp per ore it's impossible to pass up. However with the time it takes to mine it might not be worth it some. There are many other ways to make money, but with a good mining day you can make upwards of 672K, (56 Runite Ores) an hour at 85 mining (that is with constant world hopping and getting every ore). So besides the money per hour with 85 mining the increased speed of mining anything except Runite would very well be worth it. Basically all I'm saying is if the level is not enough to persuade you to get “The Great 85 Mining” maybe the reasons I stated will convince you. *All calculations were -*test*-('")ed by Runescapew44 (me), right after I reached the levels stated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anti-Knights Mining Co. strives to give our workers the pay they deserve. Well these kind of members have always been there but they have recently come more open to express their opinion about F2P. I'm now going to tell you 4 reasons why F2P should not and will not ever be deleted. 1. F2P starts it all. It wets the players tongue and makes him or her like it and enjoy it. Very rarely do people start Runescape right off without EVER playing more than a few weeks of F2P. Yeah some people may waste 5 bucks a month on something they don't even know about - but this doesn't happen often, they want to try the game out first. If F2P was deleted the amount of NEW members would drop dramatically. Yeah some of the F2Pers will still be addicted to Runescape and somehow become members, but after that rush dies down nearly no one will become a member. You know why they won't become a member? They don't want to waste 5 bucks on a game they know nothing about - even if their friends have told them about it. 2. "Deleting F2P will rid Runescape of Autoers, Gold Farmers, Scammers, Hackers, idiots, immature players, ect" - yeah, bullcrap. All it will do is force all those members who had their gold farmers and autoers in F2P onto the member servers. Member servers will soon end up with many more autoers and that trash than it does now. You think it'll get rid of the "noob" or the young and immature player? Yeah right, like I said in reason 1, lots of the little kids will freak out cause their favorite game got deleted and they'll go and beg their parents into making them members. 3. "F2P is a waste..." - so you think making loads of extra cash is a waste in the eyes of Jagex? Yeah, you heard me - EXTRA MONEY. It's called Advertisements!! F2P has to see those advertisements the entire time they play Runescape and those advertisers know that. That's why they pay Jagex to have a spot on Runescape.com to hopefully get some publicity. Jagex makes money off of Advertisements, if F2P is deleted they'll lose that money from the adverts or be forced to put them on the members servers - which they'll get plenty of complaints about that from all you members. 4. Market, econemy, sales, buyers ect. Yeah, I'm not a Marketplace Writer and I'm not the smar-*test*-('") person and all knowlegdeable about the RS econemy, but what I do know is the massive change in the member's marketplace will get smacked with if F2P is deleted. F2P supports the Member's econemy because WE supply YOU with all YOUR raw materials, and whatever that stuff is. Not to mention the massive loss of GP and some rares that exist on F2P accounts. Yeah, you may not want to believe it, but lots (not majority but a good few) F2Pers have masks, santas, pumkins, maybe Partyhats, ect. I know 5 F2Pers off the top of my head that own one of these rares...and I'm ONE person. Well this is the conclusion of my article, the deletion of F2P will mess up Runescape basically forever if that is, Jagex doesn't make some MASSIVE changes and updates and even if they do it still won't work out nicely. So members saying F2P is a waste.....your just wasting your breath. ~ Part Nine: Interview of Peterpan538 by Old Ducky Peterpan538 is a active TET Member on Tip.it Hello Peterpan, I'm Old Ducky with the Gielinor Tribune, and I'd like to interview you! Peterpan538: Sure thing! When Did you Begin playing Runescape? Peterpan538: I began to play Runescape in December of 2006 on the account "Peterpan458." Later I made Peterpan538 as a str pure. Over time it got better then my "main" so I started only playing on Peterpan538. Are there any goals you're hoping to accomplish? Peterpan538: 99 Fishing and 1800+ Overall. How long have you and that goal? Peterpan538: I have had my 99 fishing goal since the beginning of Summer '07, the 1800+ goal has been a goal of mine for quite some time, since I have always wanted a high overall at a low combat lvl. When did you find Tip.It's forums? Peterpan538: I found Tip.It when I searched Google for a combat calculator, about a month later I found the forums and I have been using it ever since. Did you find the Tip.It Skill Guides on the main page, or the forums? Peterpan538: Main Page. Did you play Runescape in-game, before you knew about Tip.It? Peterpan538: I played Runescape first, I originally began Runescape because I visited Miniclip frequently, which led me to finding RS. Do you play Runescape in-game more than you use Tip.It? If one, explain why. Peterpan538: Ah, tough question. I would say I used to play Runescape a lot more then browsing Tip.It. Now a days I browse Tip.It forums a lot more then I play Runescape. When did you become a TET Member? Peterpan538: Actually it’s CTET (Clan Tip It Events), I became one at the beginning of summer 07. Have you ever wished to not be one? Peterpan538: *laughs* Yes, there is times when it gets stressful, but mostly I love being a member of CTET. Why did you choose your username? Peterpan538: Well honestly I don’t like my current name, I joined as Peterpan because I thought Runescape would be one of those games you play for a week then never play again, however I was wrong. Is there anything you'd like to add? Peterpan538: Thanks for the interview, and best of luck with the GT Paper, hopefully ill see you around TIF. Also to those who are wondering here is my current stats: http://www.rsbandb.com/sigs/sig42/peterpan538.png Well, Thanks for Letting me have the time to interview you! ~ Part Ten: Blah! by Firsttsurugi Section 1: Words of Advice If you are one of those people who wants horseback riding, think about it. Runescape is already pushing Java to the limit. If you are a member and not playing Runescape THAT much anymore, I would suggest canceling subscription so that you do not waste money on it. At least until you get excited or find the time again. If you ARE a member, 85 mining may be a bit disappointing, unless you are trying to get 99 in every skill or another level based goal. If you are a free player, congrats, you can mine the ore needed to make the strongest melee armor in your own little fraction of the game. The best place to pk is a free world. The enemies can't use ice barrage or whips, of course if you are a member and can use them yourself that is a whole other story. Remember this: you don't ALWAYS get your money's worth when subscribing to members, so make sure that you have good enough stats to make the most out of it. You can find suggestions for starting members on fan-sites such as Tip.it and zybez.net. Section 2: You know you're a noob if... You think you're unstoppable because you bought a "dragon plate." You fish 600 sharks and then eat them all to see if you would get fat. You have tried to use a rope on the Wise Old Man so that you can take his blue party hat (hey, sometimes you have to make fun of yourself). You think you could kill a Mithril Dragon without any food, weapons, and armor. Of course, if you succeeded, then all of Runescape will bow before you! You read the suggestion about the archaeology skill and thought that Jagex would actually release it. It is a good idea, but it won't happen anytime soon. Section 3: RSOF, Stupidity or Just a Break from Reality? (with a hint of stupidity) Many of you, (okay, all of you), know of the RuneScape Official Forums (RSOF). No doubt, most of you have posted SOMETHING about how utterly pathetic it is. Though, I must admit, had it not been for the Post Thy Funny Forums Post thread, I would have barely noticed. Most of the threads I see are (somehow) actually mature. Of course, even I have noticed the people who write complete crap. Stop and think about it. Runescape is a game where people are supposed to temporarily rid themselves of the lines of reality and have fun. Sure, there is a population of Runescape who are just plain stupid, but maybe those typical idiots you see on the forums are just people trying to keep themselves out of reality in a more extreme level. Of course, this whole section was to educate you about my theory. Go ahead and make fun of them, I'm not holding you back. Section 4: Unappreciated Hard Work Some of you may recall the threads about people not getting any praise for that hard-earned skill cape. I would just like to say this: Good job and congratulations to you! Now, I could never get a 99 in any skill no matter how easy. Maybe it has something to do with having the patience of a five year old, or maybe it has something to do with my inability to make large sums of money without wasting it away. Anyway, what you have done is a great achievement. Also, to everyone else, please say "congratulations" to those people who took the time to get that skill to the maximum level. They deserve appreciation for their hard work, and we, as mature people, should show them that appreciation. Give their self-esteem that slight boost that they need in order to achieve yet another grand achievement, such as getting another level 99. Your words could be responsible for a truly amazing player. ~ Part Eleven: Imponerables by Book - Why are there 5 sylables in the word "monosylabic" when that means 1 sylable? - What would a chair look like if your knees bent the other way? - When everything's coming your way.... does it mean you're in the wrong lane? - If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her some friends? - How do you tell when you run out of invisible ink? - What happens if you get scared half-to-death twice in the same day? - Why is the alphabet in that order?
